Rabie confirmed that Egypt is implementing an integrated strategy to encourage yacht tourism in the Suez Canal.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued Resolution No. 327 for year 2024, extending service of Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of the Board of Directors of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie for a period of one year starting Monday August 12, 2024.

Both officials made an inspection tour of the Suez Marine Shipyard Company, one of The Authority’s affiliated companies, to follow up on the progress of work and determine the results of the company’s comprehensive development plan, the statement said.
On his part, Mr. Guy Platten has expressed his appreciation of the SCA's efforts that are exerted towards achieving effective communication with all the key players in the maritime community. He emphasized the positive impact of communication on understanding the current conditions in the maritime transport market as well as the consecutive variables it witnesses.
Rabie stressed that the meeting was held to open direct channels of communication with all its clients to consult on the current situation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab region and to discuss the proposed recommendations to enhance cooperation with the Suez Canal.
During the first 11 days of January, the number of ships crossing the canal decreased by 30 percent to 544 ships, and the tonnage transversing the canal decreased by 41% compared to the previous year.
Additionally, the Suez Canal Authority, in a navigational circular, approved a 5 percent increase in regular transit fees for dry bulk cargo ships, general cargo ships, and roll-on/roll-off ships, among others.
The newly approved rate hikes are targeted towards several vessel types.
