Egyptian SCA Chief, Minister of Transport discuss ways to localize the shipbuilding industry

CAIRO – 3 February 2024: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Admiral Osama Rabie and Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir, discussed ways to localize the shipbuilding industry in Egypt, according to a statement from the SCA.

 

Both officials made an inspection tour of the Suez Marine Shipyard Company, one of The Authority’s affiliated companies, to follow up on the progress of work and determine the results of the company’s comprehensive development plan, the statement said.

 

They inspected company's electrical, mechanical, and lathe workshops, in addition to inspecting the carpentry workshop after it was redeveloped and modernized by providing it with the latest wood cutting and shaping machines.

 

The Minister of Transport and the Chairman of the Authority also followed up on the maintenance and repair work being carried out on the dry dock at the Suez Shipyard Company.

 

The Suez Canal's most important achievement since its nationalization on July 26, 1956 was the decision to dig the new Suez Canal with a length of 72 kilometers, he continued, saying that the new shipping lane of the Suez Canal has shortened the transit time for the passing vessels from 22 hours to only 11 hours, Rabie in previous remarks in 2022.
