CAIRO – 13 March 2023: The Suez Canal has recorded its highest daily transit rate as 107 ships are set to cross the international trade route on Monday with net tonnage of 6.3 million tons, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie has said in a statement.
A total of 56 ships has crossed the canal from the north with a net tonnage of 3.4 million tons and 51 ships have passed through the canal’s new navigational course from the south with a net tonnage of 2.9 million tons, the statement said.
The giant container ship EVER GIFTED, classified as one of the largest of its kind in the world, has also crossed the canal today from the north heading to Malaysia from Greece with a total tonnage of 223,000 tons, the SCA statement said.
Also, COSCO SHIPPING UNIVERSE container ship flying the Hong Kong flag has crossed the canal from the south traveling from Singapore to Greece with a total tonnage of 232,000 tons.
Today, the canal has seen the crossing of 25 container ships, 28 bulk ships, 33 tankships, six ro-ro ships, in addition to 15 ships of different types, the statement added.
The Suez Canal achieved in January the highest monthly revenue in its history, totaling $802 million, and also recorded its highest annual revenue of $7 billion in the fiscal year 2021-2022.
