Arab, foreign selling push EGX to end Thursday on mixed note

CAIRO – 7 June 2018: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Thursday’s session on a mixed note, market capitalization lost LE 1.19 billion ($66.27 million), amid Arab and foreign selling.

The benchmark EGX30 rose 0.09 percent, or 14.75 points, to close at 15,923.66 points.

The equally weighted index EGX50 declined 0.87 percent, or 23.30 points, to reach 2,659.82 points.

Meanwhile, the small and mid-cap index EGX70 dropped 1 percent, or 8.03 points, closing at 794.55 points, and the broader index EGX100 decreased 0.74 percent, or 15.24 points, to close at 2,037.94 points.

Market capitalization lost LE 1.19 billion, recording LE 902.77 billion, compared to LE 903.96 billion in Wednesday’s session.

The trading volume reached 167.59 million shares, traded through 22,206 transactions, with a turnover of LE 1.1 billion.

Egyptian investors were net buyers at LE 94.07 million, while Arab and foreign investors were net sellers at LE 73.17 million and LE 20.9 million, respectively.

Egyptian individuals were net sellers at LE 11.95 million, while Arab and foreign individuals were net buyers at LE 47.42 million, and LE 498,060, respectively.

Egyptian organizations bought at LE 106.03 million, while Arab and foreign organizations sold at LE 120.59 million, and LE 21.4 million, respectively.

Mansourah Poultry, Sinai Cement, and Cleopatra Hospital Company were top gainers of the session by 7.24 percent, 4.21 percent and 3.93 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, Modern Company for water proofing (Bitumode), Remco for Touristic Villages Construction, and Cairo Oils & Soap, were top losers of the session by 9.24 percent, 8.81 percent and 8.66 percent, respectively.

The EGX ended Wednesday’s session in red, as EGX30 decreased 0.71 percent, EGX50 dropped 1.91 percent, EGX100 went down 1.53 percent, and EGX70 declined 1.97 percent.

Trading on the EGX during the holy month of Ramadan is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (CLT).
