Starting from Sunday, the Egyptian government will suspend its load-shedding program for the summer until mid-September, as announced by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly last week.
Egypt’s Cabinet spokesperson Mohamad Al- Humosani said, Wednesday that the current electricity problem, is the result of increasing consumption and the need to provide more financial resources that enable the purchase of the fuel necessary for the operation of the electricity network and stations.
Counselor Mohamed al Humosani, spokesperson for Egypt’s cabinet, said on Tuesday that the government is committed the Prime Minister promise regarding stopping load shedding starting the third week of July.
“We used to hear that people were pricing the dollar at 70 and 80 pounds, and it was said that within a year it would remain at 100 pounds, and [people used these words as reference] to set prices for goods.”
This brings the total daily power cutting hours to up to three hours
Egypt’s Electricity Holding Company announced Tuesday, halting its plans to reduce electrical loads during the morning hours which coincides with ‘the students’ exams’ and to start the power cuts at 3 pm to 7 pm.
The Ministry of Electricity has announced that it will resume daily power outages for inhabitants in various governorates starting from Monday, according to a ministry official.
Public employees in Egypt who have been working from home on Sundays in August as part of a government plan to reduce electricity consumption will work their shifts in the office starting September.

The government has received complaints from citizens that power cuts are longer in villages than in cities, he said, noting that malfunction of electricity networks is possible with the rise in temperatures. Electricity turbines consume higher amounts of gas due to the temperatures in summer, Saad clarified.
Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker and Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Molla held an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss putting quick and radical solutions to the power cuts crisis.
