CAIRO – 27 July 2024: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) predicts a welcome dip in temperatures across the country this week.
While we are all sweating it out with the humidity cranking up the 'feels like' factor, there is a hint of excitement in the air.
Rain and thunder might just make a cameo appearance in parts of southern Egypt, including Abu Simbel and the Halayeb triangle. However, do not get your hopes up too high as the rain chances are slim.
In Cairo, brace yourself for temperatures in the mid-30s all week, with an extra 2 degrees for feel-like temperatures.
Over on the North Coast, where the sea breeze meets the sandy shores of Alexandria and Matrouh, it is a similar story—the feels-like temperatures are keeping it toasty.
Heads up for sailors and beach bums: the EMA has its eye on the Gulf of Suez and the western Mediterranean beaches this Sunday.
Winds are set to sweep in at 35-50 km/hour, churning up waves as high as 1.5 to 2.5 meters.
As for the feel-like readings, South Sinai, the haven of Sharm El-Sheikh, is cranking up the heat above 40 degrees all week long.
Meanwhile, northern Upper Egypt, home to the likes of Fayoum and Beni Suef, is sizzling, and the southern parts, including the iconic Aswan and Luxor, are turning up the heat to a scorching 46 degrees on the feels-like scale.
Here is the lowdown on the expected average temperatures for the upcoming week, starting Sunday:
Cairo and Lower Egypt – Highs: 36, Feels Like: 38
North Coast – Highs: 33, Feels Like: 36
South Sinai – Highs: 39, Feels Like: 42
Northern Upper Egypt – Highs: 41, Feels Like: 43
