Zamalek lost 3-1 against Esperance in Tunisia in Matchday 3 of CAF Champions League group stage and they are now third in the group with only two points.
Zamalek maintained their position atop of the Egyptian League table with 8 points ahead of Al Ahly, who still have three games to play.
Zamalek came close from scoring during the match but all the White Knights’ attempts missed the target.
Zamalek players will have one eye on revenge as El Geish knocked Zamalek out of the Egyptian Cup semi-finals in December.
Zamalek head coach Jaime Pacheco announced the team’s squad for the match and he excluded Sassi from the list after suffering an injury.
Sassi’s contract with the club ends the next summer and he is eligible to sign for any club for free this January transfer window.
The club statement added that the player did not have any contact with the team players since he arrived from Tunisia and he is now in self-isolation.
Mohamed Abdel Razek "Shikabala" returned to training Zamalek again after the end of his physical program, which he underwent recently to recover from injury.
Sassi joined Zamalek last summer and since then he established himself as one of the key players at Zamalek and played a great role in Zamalek’s successful season.
Sassi suffered a serious injury during Zamalek’s clash against Mrocco’s Hassania Agadir at the CAF Confederation Cup quarter finals.
