Honda Motor (7267.T) announced on Tuesday it would shut its sole British plant by 2021.
The deal calls for Honda to provide engineering expertise, and extends cooperation between the pair in a technology that has enormous costs and risk but no market-ready products.
The automaker is currently awaiting certification for the plane both at home and in China, after having already received U.S. and European certifications over the past two years.
The Japanese automaker’s sales in China fell 15.3 percent in May from a year earlier to 99,263 vehicles, it said on Monday.
“We will closely monitor the situation under the U.S. probe and fully evaluate the possible impact and resolutely defend our own legitimate interests.”
Honda Motor Co’s joint-venture companies in China will recall a total of 254,650 Honda-brand vehicles starting on Jan. 8, 2018.
Honda Motor Co said on Saturday that it was recalling about 900,000 minivans.
