CAIRO – 23 December 2024: Egypt's Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, chaired a high-level meeting to review proposals for the organizational structure of the Jarjoub Economic Zone. The meeting brought together key ministers and officials, including Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, and other top executives from investment and economic authorities.
The Prime Minister opened the session by emphasizing the state’s strategic efforts in Jarjoub, noting the establishment of a port and ongoing renewable energy projects in the region. He underscored plans to create an economic zone that builds on the successes of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, with a directive to form a dedicated committee to drive the initiative forward.
El-Wazir outlined a detailed organizational framework for the proposed Jarjoub Economic Zone, including a land-use master plan and a draft structure for the zone’s governing board and administrative operations. The proposal detailed the roles and functions required to manage the zone efficiently, ensuring alignment with Egypt’s broader economic goals.
Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority, Walid Gamal El-Din, highlighted Jarjoub’s potential as a fully integrated industrial, logistical, and service hub. He proposed granting the zone’s board powers outlined in Law No. 83 of 2002, ensuring a seamless investor experience through a unified administrative body. He also stressed the need to attract top talent for the zone’s operations.
Discussions included promotional strategies aimed at positioning Jarjoub on the global investment map. These strategies will focus on curating specific investment opportunities, fostering partnerships with international institutions, and leveraging global exhibitions and conferences to draw interest in targeted industries.
The Prime Minister concluded by directing stakeholders to finalize a comprehensive plan for the Jarjoub Economic Zone to present to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This marks a significant step toward transforming Jarjoub into a major economic and investment hub.
