Women’s Day
The dire situation has forced several women to resort to drastic measures, such as shaving their hair due to the scarcity of water for washing. Furthermore, many girls and women have been compelled to rely on oral contraceptives as a substitute for proper menstrual hygiene products, which are in short supply.
On her official Facebook platform, the First Lady said: “In spite of all the hardships and challenges, she [in an indication to Egyptian women] preserves her great details and distinct character. She is the voice of conscience and mercy. She is the source of joy and the icon of unique national and humanitarian work. A salute to the women of Egypt on International Women's Day.”
Frederica Meyer, representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt, emphasized the strong role of Egyptian women throughout history.
Sisi asked citizens to stick to instructions and stay at home for two weeks, to overcome the current health crisis and help limit infection.
