CAIRO – 8 March 2024: Egyptian First Lady Entissar El-Sisi greeted all Egyptian women on International Women’s Day, saying that they are “the voice of conscience and mercy.”

On her official Facebook platform, the First Lady said: “In spite of all the hardships and challenges, she [in an indication to Egyptian women] preserves her great details and distinct character. She is the voice of conscience and mercy. She is the source of joy and the icon of unique national and humanitarian work. A salute to the women of Egypt on International Women's Day.”

Two days ago, Egypt’s First Lady said that Egyptian women are a source of inspiration and a symbol of excellence and generosity. On her official page on social media, she said: “I would like to express deep appreciation for Egyptian women, who are a source of inspiration and a symbol of excellence and generosity.”

She reiterated her commitment to work side by side with Egyptian women for a better future.

The world first celebrated International Women's Day on February 28, 1909, specifically in New York City. Two years later, German socialist Louise Zitz proposed that the holiday become a day celebrated every year in order to celebrate various women's issues, including suffrage, which is the right to vote in political elections, in order to promote Equal rights for women.

Women celebrated the first International Women's Days in a different way than they celebrate at the present time, as many women were keen to organize hundreds of demonstrations in Europe, to demand that they be granted the right to vote and hold public office.

Among the issues that women fought for was discrimination on the basis of sex at work, which they demanded to be abolished every International Women's Day, and in 1917.
