Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has arrived in Egypt back from Juba, concluding a one-day visit, during which he met with his South Sudanese counterpart.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Saturday met with South Sudan's First Vice President Riek Machar, as part of the former’s visit to Juba, during which he separately met with President Salva Kiir.
“I am asking you as a brother to stay in peace. I am asking you with my heart, let us go forward. There will be many problems but they will not overcome us. Resolve your problems,” Francis said in improvised remarks
A political row between Kiir and Machar degenerated in 2013 into a war that has killed tens of thousands, forced a quarter of the population to flee their homes and wrecked the country's oil-dependent economy.
The president of South Sudan and head of the country's main rebel group signed a final cease fire and power-sharing agreement on Sunday.
The United States on Thursday condemned a bill proposed by South Sudan's government that would extend President Salva Kiir's term for three years.
Riek Machar declined to renounce violence or declare a unilateral ceasefire and instead demanded new peace talks outside the war-torn country.
