Egypt has previously announced its plan to establish a smart electrical grid, including a variety of operation and energy measures amid its move to renovate the whole sector.
The proliferation of digital technologies in Egypt’s electricity system comes within the framework of the government’s goal to harness the power of the digital economy and transition to cashless transactions.
Producing smart meters in Egypt reflects the Trade Ministry’s strategy that aims at boosting local manufacturing.
The first locations to see the meters' supply will be the 6th October City and Sheikh Zayed districts
Trial operations will start next week in North and South Cairo electricity distribution companies.
The smart meters project will be accompanied by other projects in the infrastructure sector such as establishing computerized control centers, Ayman Hamza said.
