CAIRO – 15 April 2023: A 4.5 magnitude earthquake hit 37 kilometers northeast of the Egyptian Red Sea city of Hurghada early on Saturday, said Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) in a statement.
The earthquake took place at 1:28 AM today at a depth of 23 kilometers, NRIAG said, affirming that no damage or casualties have been reported.
Egypt experiences few earthquakes per year and has not seen any powerful quakes since the deadly earthquake of 1992 that hit the country at a magnitude of 5.6, killing more than 500 people and injuring thousands others.
