Cairo – 17 June 2017: The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is planning to convert all 30 million electricity meters for consumers, to smart meters (also known as digital meters) in the next 10 years with 60 billion Egyptian pounds budget, according to an official source in the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.

The ministry is aiming to install 4 million smart meters a year until 2027, with the LE 60 billion budget divided over the course of 10 years.

The source also added that there are 30 million basic electricity meters currently in use in egypt, which will be replaced by smart meters, pointing out that there is a one million annual increase in the number of consumers, bringing the total number of consumers to 40 million consumers in 10 years.
