Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hailed on Wednesday the deeply-rooted and robust ties between Egypt and Somalia.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi received, Thursday a phone call from President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of the Memorandum of Understanding signed early this month by Ethiopia, under which Addis Ababa agreed to lease a port in the breakaway region of Somaliland.
Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit Saturday voiced full solidarity with the Somali state and supported its position regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ethiopia and the Somaliland region.
During the phone call, Sisi also stressed Egypt’s readiness to continue its support to Somalia to build and consolidate state institutions, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.
Sisi said he discussed with Mohamud the GERD issue, affirming that they highlighted the danger of unilateral policies when implementing projects on transboundary rivers.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will receive on Monday his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in presidential Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.
Receiving Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Thursday, President Mohamud hailed Egypt’s role in supporting Somalia since it gained its independence since 1960.
Egypt welcomed on Wednesday the successful organization of Somali elections that ended up by declaring Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as the new president of the country.
