Fertiglobe has secured a contract valued at €397 million to supply green ammonia to the European Union. The contract spans until 2033 and sets the rate at €1,000 per ton.
The agreements, between the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) and European developers, aim to bolster Egypt's renewable energy infrastructure, explained a cabinet statement on Sunday
A green hydrogen project, to be established in Gargoub, west of Matrouh, will require a total investment of €24 billion.
In the near future, green fuel bunkering will be available as well.
He noted that investments into this project amounting to $85 billion, while direct job opportunities amounting to 45,000 and indirect job opportunities amounting to 230,000.
Green ammonia is a 100-percent renewable and carbon-free ammonia that is produced by green hydrogen, which is obtained by “using hydrogen from water electrolysis and nitrogen separated from the air.”
Many MoUs with global and international firms were signed in less than a year.
The Egyptian government and an Egyptian-French alliance signed on Wednesday an MoU to establish a project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone in Ain Sokhna to produce 350,000 tons of green fuel annually as a fuel for ships.
As per the agreement, Scatec will build and operate the facility to produce green hydrogen with quantities ranging from 50 to 100 megawatts.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be signed between Egypt and the company, the statement continued.
