CAIRO – 21 July 2024: Fertiglobe, a UAE company formed through a partnership between the ADNOC Group and OCI Global, plans to export green ammonia from Egypt to Europe in early 2027, according to a company official who spoke to Asharq Bloomberg.

Fertiglobe has secured a contract valued at €397 million to supply green ammonia to the European Union. The contract spans until 2033 and sets the rate at €1,000 per ton.

This agreement is contingent upon the completion of the investment agreement among the project partners for Egypt’s green hydrogen initiative. The green hydrogen project will ensure a stable supply of hydrogen for ammonia production.

Two years ago, Fertiglobe, along with Scatec ASA, Orascom Construction, and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, signed an agreement to establish Africa’s first integrated green hydrogen production plant, known as Egypt’s green hydrogen factory. This agreement was made during the COP 27 summit.

The company official further explained that Fertiglobe will produce green ammonia at its factory located on the Gulf of Suez coast in the Red Sea.

The production of green ammonia will rely on green hydrogen generated at Egypt’s green hydrogen factory.

The company intends to initially produce 74 thousand tons of green ammonia, with the ability to scale up production based on demand.
