CAIRO- 10 January 2021: In a bid to activate the national environment campaign “Live Green,” Cairo branch of the Ministry of Environment donated 1000 trees to be planted in a number of landfills, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Environment on Sunday.
Garbage has been removed from the landfills to be replaced with trees, in a way to change the places into aesthetic areas and purify air from pollutants, the statement added.
Cairo and Beheira branches have applied a number awareness and afforestation campaigns, the statement added.
“Live Green” initiative was launched by Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi the World Youth Forum in Sharm el Sheikh on December 12, 2019.
The initiative focuses on the youth’s role in protecting their environment, the minister said in her speech at the Forum, adding that the government targets a 50-percent decrease of the solid particle pollution rate by 2030.
