Planting 2000 ornamental and fruit trees in Port Said schools and gardens as part of the President's initiative
Around 20,000 trees were planted in Egyptian villages as part of the Haya Karima [or A Decent Life] initiative.
As for the role of the Ministry of Environment in the initiative, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said that the ministry will plant one million trees annually, through a number of programs, including the presidential initiative “Decent Life.”
Garbage has been removed from the landfills to be replaced with trees, in a way to change the places into aesthetic areas and purify air from pollutants, the statement added.
The participants painted the old tires of vehicles with beautiful colors to make them as shelters for the newly-planted trees from strong winds
The 27th of January was chosen to mark the anniversary of the issuance of the first Egyptian Environment Law, which was passed in 1994.
The volunteers can contact the ministry on hotline 19808 from 8:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m. (Cairo Time), while on public holidays, the service is available until 3:00 p.m.
