The Egyptian state is taking many steps and successive measures to transform into a green economy in all aspects of life, including the housing and utilities sector.
The initiative focuses on planting trees along roads, in central islands, desert backdrops, government facilities (schools, universities, youth centers), as well as city entrances, villages, major squares, and industrial areas.
The ministry's participation is carried out over two phases.
Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said trees in Merryland Park in Cairo have not been cut as rumored on social media, while Minister of Agriculture Sayed al-Qasir also denied Giza Zoo is cutting its old trees.
Increasing the per capita share of green spaces in new cities and existing urban areas has been a priority for the government, said Minister of Housing Assem Al-Gazzar on Thursday.

According to the report about 635,000 trees and palm tress have been so far implanted in new cities across the various Egyptian governorates.
The initiaitive is planned to be completed over seven years.
Egypt began implementing the Presidential Initiative to plant 100 million trees in 9,900 sites across governorates on an area of up to 6600 acres suitable for tree forests or gardens and to provide the necessary agricultural seedlings.
Since ancient times, trees occupy a great place in the hearts of mankind.
Garbage has been removed from the landfills to be replaced with trees, in a way to change the places into aesthetic areas and purify air from pollutants, the statement added.
The trees would be planted on an area of 2,700 feddans (one feddan equals 1.03 acre) in the public parks nationwide to make up for trees cut by humans and to reduce air pollutants.
