In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said that the death toll in the country was raised to 7,741 after 54 patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours.
CAIRO – 3 January 2021: The Egyptian authorities began on Sunday applying a LE50-fine on people who fail to wear a mask while riding public transportation or in closed spaces.
The police as well as those who have citizen’s arrest powers, mainly at government institutions, can apply the fine, even if a person has a mask on him but does not wear it. If he fails to pay the fine, he will be referred to the prosecution.
The police were seen in streets on Sunday checking that drivers and passengers in public transportation vehicles wear the mask.
Pedestrians and those in private vehicles are exempt from the fine.
The Health Ministry announced that Egypt registered 1,407 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, raising the total number of confirmed cases thusfar to 140,878.
