CAIRO – 16 June 2017: Al Ahly withdraw from participation in the IHF Super Globe 2017 hosted by Qatar due to be held in August, Shereen Shams, Al Ahly executive manager, told Al Ahly official website on Friday.

Al Ahly handball team qualified for the tournament as the champions of Africa.
The decision came amid the Arab countries’ punishment measures against Qatar over its “support to terrorist group.”

“Al Ahly President Mahmoud Taher decided to apologize for participation in the competition supporting the government direction to boycott the realtions with Qatar,” Shams said in his statement.

Boycotting decision may cause financial penalties on the team by the International Handball Federation (IHF), President of Egyptian Handball Federation Khaled Hamouda, told Al-Harif talk show on DMC channel on Thursday.
