CAIRO – 20 October 2017: Zamalek’s handball team secured its first victory in its opening in the Champions League campaign with a 38-24 win against Ivory Coast’s Red Star on Friday.
The Whites ended the first-half 20-9 and were able to seal the game in the second half, extending their lead to 38-24.
Al-Ahly’s and Zamalek’s handball teams flew on the same plane to Tunisia for the African Handball Champions League in Hammamet, Tunisia. The championship runs from October 20 to October 30.
Zamalek plays in Group B along with Ivory Coast’s Red Star, Morocco’s Widad Smara, Libya’s Al-Ittihad and Gabon’s Phoenix.
Al-Ahly plays in Group C alongside Libya’s, Congo’s HC OKA, Cameroon’s FANZ HB, and the host team, AS Hammamet.
Zamalek’s next game will be against Al-Ittihad on Saturday, October 21, at 5 p.m. Cairo time. They will then face Phoenix and Widad Smara on October 23 and 24, respectively.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Ahly are the African tournament’s title holder after they managed to beat Esperance 26-23 in the final of last season.
Zamalek manager’s, Magdi Abo El Magd, chosen squad for the tournament consists of Hassan Yousri, Ahmed Al-Ahmar, Mohamed Abdel Salam, Hisham El-Sobki, Mustafa Tamer, Mostafa El Sayed, Karim Ayman, Ali Hisham, Mohamed Ali Abdel Muttalib, Yehia Khaled, Ali Hazem, Mohamed Ramadan, Alaa Emad, Mohamed Alaa, Mahmoud Khalil, Akram Yusri, Wissam Samy and Massoud Barkos.
