CAIRO – 14 June 2017: The Urban Communities Authority signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding with Bombardier Inc. to prepare the project plans of constructing a flying metro connecting Cairo’s neighborhood Nasr City to the New Administrative Capital through the suburb New Cairo.

The authority’s vice-Head for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mazen Hassan stated to Al-Masry Al-Youm that the Canadian multinational aerospace and transportation company was going to conduct feasibility studies including the preliminary route, the infrastructure, and its capacity which is estimated to be 1.5 million passengers like the underground metro.

Hassan added that the authority will coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation in all the project’s phases, along with providing Bombardier Inc. with all the data necessary to put the project’s plan, as Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.

The counselor of the housing minister said that material made in Egypt will be used in the project and that the Canadian company will evaluate contractual methods with potential local and global constructions companies.

The project was supposed to be first executed by the Chinese company AFIC starting 2016 but the deal was not closed due to disagreements till 2017.
