860 medical centers provide free health care services for the elderly in Egypt

CAIRO - 30 April 2024: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that the “Continuing Health Care for the Elderly” program comes within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to improve the quality of healthy life for the elderly over 65 years of age, through early detection of the most common health problems at this age stage.
 
For her part, Dr. Souad Abdel Majeed, Head of the Health Care and Nursing Sector, indicated that a package of health services is provided free of charge to the elderly through 860 centers in health units and family medicine centers, distributed in 21 governorates nationwide.
 
Abdel Majeed added that the services provided include conducting a comprehensive medical examination to detect non-communicable diseases, digestive system diseases, and malnutrition (anemia, obesity), in addition to psychological and nutritional evaluation, as well as providing health education and psychological support services, to enhance the health of the elderly and raise awareness of the health problems of the elderly and how to prevent them. 
 
He further added that patients are referred to hospitals for advanced medical examinations, and each patient also receives a periodic follow-up card for the health condition, mainly with two visits annually.
