CAIRO – 12 April 2022: The Ministry of Health calls on the Egyptian people to receive the booster shot of the Covid-19 vaccine once they receive an SMS invitation six to eight months after their last dose.

Spokesperson of the ministry, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, called Tuesday on everyone who is 18 years of age and above to take the vaccine and the booster.

He said the ministry is on high alert regarding the new coronavirus mutants, including the lately discovered XE, to maintain the success of Egypt in the face of the novel virus as the rates of infection and hospital visits continue to decrease significantly.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the mutants of the virus generally develop to be weaker, and the vaccines available are effective against them. He also called on the Egyptian people to maintain measures against the pandemic, including social distancing and wearing masks.

The average number of daily new infections with the Coronavirus (COVOD-19) reached 559 patients over the past week, said the Egyptian Ministry of Health on April 2 in a weekly briefing on the infection among the Egyptians.

It added that the average daily death toll reached eight new cases.

Meanwhile, the average of the recovered people reached 565, after receiving the necessary medical care in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization, bringing the total number of people recovering from the coronavirus so far 438,458 cases.

It is reported that the number of people who are fully vaccinated against the virus has reached 32, 563, 052.
