Egypt reported 1,418 new coronavirus cases on December 31, the highest daily count since July 3. Cases then started to decrease until reaching 512 cases on Thursday.
57 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 8,142
The Health Ministry announced that Egypt registered 1,359 new coronavirus cases on Monday, raising the total number of confirmed cases thusfar to 133,900.
A statement by the Cabinet on Friday denied the reports circulated on some social media pages, alleging that public hospitals are covering up the real number of coronavirus-linked deaths in Egypt.
Sisi has urged coordination among relevant state bodies to benefit from the country’s experience in dealing with the pandemic since it has started.
This raises the total number of confirmed cases and deaths since the outbreak in the country began to 100,403 and 5,577 respectively.
Egypt’s Health Minister Hala Zayed on Wednesday warned of some citizens’ lax behavior during the coronavirus crisis, including not committing to wearing masks in crowded areas and public transportation, saying it may lead to a second wave of the pandemic in the northeastern African country.
