President Sisi during his meeting Thursday with the Minister of International Relations and International Cooperation of South Africa, Ronald Lamola
CAIRO - 14 November 2024: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Thursday the Minister of International Relations and International Cooperation of South Africa, Ronald Lamola, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Joseph Mashimbai, South Africa's Ambassador to Cairo.
The official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic explained that the South African Minister conveyed to the President a verbal message from the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, expressing his appreciation to the President and his keenness to continue developing relations and ties between the two countries.
The spokesperson said that for his side, President Sisi stressed Egypt's pride in the historical brotherly relations that bind the two countries and brotherly peoples, and the continuous communication between him and President Ramaphosa. In this context, the meeting reviewed ways to enhance and expand bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially in light of the two countries' membership in the BRICS group, and their active role regionally and on the African continent.
The meeting also touched on regional conditions and the efforts of Egypt and South Africa to provide support to the Palestinian cause in all ways, as the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in the region were reviewed, and in this regard the responsibility of the international community, to move in a unified and decisive manner to take steps in order to end tensions in the region and prevent the expansion of the conflict, was emphasized.
Means of enhancing cooperation between the countries of the South were also discussed, in light of South Africa's upcoming presidency of the G20, as the President stressed the importance of joint work to put African development priorities on the international agenda, as well as to achieve the best benefit from the African Union's new membership in the G20.
