Ramses II statue
Egypt has successfully recovered a remarkable 3,400-year-old fragment of King Ramses II's statue, which had been stolen from the ancient site of Abydos and smuggled to Switzerland, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.
The General Authority for Cultural Palaces concluded the activities of the Aswan Festival to celebrate the solar alignment phenomenon where the sun illuminates the face of the statue of Ramses II in Abu Simbel Temple.
The phenomenon has become a reality on October 21, 2020
In the early hours of October 22, visitors from around the world observed the unique biannual phenomenon of the solar alignment on the statue of Ramses II in Abu Simbel Temple.
The 50-ton statue was broken into more than 50 pieces and was restored by 250 archeological missions over eight months.
Antiquities Minister Khaled el Anany said that the process of relocating Ramses II statue to its new place in the Grand Egyptian Museum will take one hour.
Khaled al Anani announced that the Ramses II statue will be transferred from its current place to the grand gallery at main entrance of the museum.
