Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with Peter Mollema, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo, to explore opportunities for deepening cooperation in various sectors, particularly green hydrogen and renewable energy projects.
These agreements bring together the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), and Alcazar to initiate studies for a 2 GW wind power project.
This collaboration aims to explore opportunities for cooperation in hydrogen trade, focusing on production potentials and expanding hydrogen’s logistical pathways.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, outlined key targets during the BRICS Energy Ministers Conference, including the goal for renewable energy to comprise over 42 percent of Egypt's energy mix by 2040
These stations, with a combined capacity of around 1,000 megawatts, will be set up in Upper Egypt, notably in the Aswan Governorate.
Moreover, the Minister disclosed the implementation of solar energy projects amounting to 3,700 megawatts, including Abydos 1 and 2, SCATEC, and Masdar ventures.
At a meeting with Clary’s delegation at the ministry's headquarters in Al Alamein City, Esmat praised the fruitful partnership between the electricity ministry and the EIB, which has already bolstered Egypt's electricity sector
The investments in these initiatives are projected to reach $2.5 billion, attributing to the advanced technologies employed.
Esmat emphasized that the existing combined capacity from wind and solar energy stands at approximately 4.6 gigawatts, while hydroelectric energy capacity currently reaches 2,832 megawatts.
The projects, with a total investment of $700 million, are expected to significantly contribute to Egypt’s renewable energy goals.
The two wind energy projects are set to have a combined capacity of 8 gigawatts with foreign direct investments estimated to reach $9 billion
The study aims to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a pumping and storage station with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts using a build-own-operate (BOO) system.
The protocol aims to prepare an executive plan for cybersecurity in the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, its agencies, and its subsidiaries, in accordance with Egypt’s National Strategy for Cyber Security.
The delegates, in a meeting with Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker here Wednesday, expressed desire to implement wind and solar energy projects in the Red Sea and Minya governorates.
Shaker hailed the distinguished ties between the ministry and AFD.
The wind power plant in Gabal El-Zeit consists of three projects, including 390 wind turbines, with a capacity of 580 megawatts (MW).
The first locations to see the meters' supply will be the 6th October City and Sheikh Zayed districts
