Safwan Thabet
This comes two weeks after the Egyptian Public Prosecution released Thabet and his son, Seif El-Din late in January, after years in pretrial detention over accusations of funding terrorist entities.
The Egyptian Public Prosecution released the businessman Safwan Thabet and his son, Seif El-Din. They were facing accusations of “funding terrorist entities.”
The imprisoned Thabet has ordered his main arm, Yehia Mahran, to transfer money through the latter’s company to finance the terrorist group.
Seif Thabet is accused of making an agreement with leaders of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group to hold meetings, where they agreed on putting alternative plans to maintain financing.
Egyptian authorities have held Sayed Sowerky, owner of the giant retail chain, with branches all over Egypt, and Safwan Thabet, CEO of the Juhayna Food Industries company, over joining and financing terrorism.
An Administrative Court rejected on Tuesday an appeal filed by businessman Safwan Thabet over the confiscation of his assets and properties.
