During the holy month of Ramadan, people who fast can notice that their energy levels are decreasing and have a hard time remaining focused and productive. This happens as a consequence of the major change in the eating and sleeping habits. While a cup of coffee is invigorating enough to give a good kick start in the morning, there are other tips that can help you stay active and productive while fasting.
1. Get enough sleep.
In Ramadan we tend to sleep later than the usual waiting for suhoor and then waking up the next day early for work. Accumulated sleep deprivation will result in an endless loop of exhaustion. It is better to take a short afternoon nap after work to help your body get as much sleep as possible.
2. Eat nutritious food for suhoor.
What we eat plays a significant role in how we feel. It is important that you keep your suhoor healthy and packed with all the essential nutrients and vitamins to keep your body going while fasting. Also, it is important to drink a lot of water to help keep your body hydrated.
3. Plan ahead.
Since lack of sleep and hunger can make it more difficult for us to stay focused, planning the night before will be of great help. As you prioritize the tasks, schedule tasks that need energy to be done early in the morning. Keep lighter ones towards the ends of the day.
4. Take short breaks.
Sticking to your desk won’t help you stay productive or finish more work. Take short breaks in between to stroll around the office or at least to look away from the screen
5. Avoid distractions.
To keep your concentration where it belongs, avoid anything that can cause you distraction such as scrolling down your smartphone or constantly checking your social media accounts.
