National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat - ET
CAIRO - 7 January 2020: The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is preparing to transfer mummies from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat.
The transfer process will start during the upcoming period, as preparations are being made for a global-scale transport procession befitting the ancient Egyptian civilization. A total of 22 mummies and 17 royal coffins are set to be transported.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is also working on broadcasting the event on a wide range of local and international media outlets.
The transportation of 22 mummies and 17 royal coffins from their current location site at the Tahrir Museum to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat will take place within the next 3 months.
It is worth noting that the second n meeting held to discuss the procedures of transporting the royal mummies and coffins took place in August 2019, in the presence of representatives from the ministries of defense, interior, tourism, Cairo Governorate, security authorities, and the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
During the meeting, many topics were discussed, including the path to be used for transporting the mummies, raising the efficiency of roads from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, the places of exit and entry of the vehicles that will carry out the transfer and setting the pathway that will be used within the museum after arrival.
