CAIRO – 30 November 2017: The 2017 Georgian hijacking thriller "Hostages" will screen on the final day of the 39th Cairo International Film Festival, which runs from November 21 until November 30.

Director Rezo Gigineishvili retells the dramatic true story of the 1983 plane hijacking in the old Soviet Republic of Georgia. A group of privileged young Georgians take control of a plane in order to escape the oppressive rule of the Soviet Union. They use the newlywed status of members Nika (Irakli Kvirikadze) and Anna (Tina Dalakishvili) in order to easily get past airport security. Yet, the hijacking itself is poorly planned, and things take a disastrous turn when the Soviet Special Forces get involved.

After premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 10, 2017, "Hostages" was nominated for the Edinburgh International Film Festival's ‘Best International Feature Film’ award and won 'Best Cinematographer' and 'Best Direction' at the Sochi Open Russian Film Festival.
