CAIRO – 24 October 2017: Famed master of thrillers Alfred Hitchcock’s "Rear Window" (1954) will screen at the Egyptian Association for Film Critics (EFCA) on Sunday, October 29 at 36 Sherif Street in Downtown Cairo.
"Rear Window" is a look into the depths of voyeurism, a theme common in Hitchcock’s work and what it means to witness a horrible event yet remain powerless to do anything. Here, James Stewart plays professional photographer L.B. 'Jeff' Jefferies, bound in a wheelchair after injuring his leg and stuck in his apartment in New York.
In order to pass the time, he begins observing the neighbors, spying on their daily habits, until one day he comes to believe he has witnessed a murder. He asks for help from his girlfriend, Lisa, (Grace Kelly) and his nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) to help him uncover the truth.
"Rear Window" was adapted from a short story written by Cornell Woolrich, titled, "It Had to Be Murder," which in turn was inspired by a real life crime.
Nominated for four Oscars, the film will be screened with Arabic translations at the EFCA.
