CAIRO – 4 October 2017: Cinema Magnolia in Zamalek, Cairo, will screen the 2011 Greek drama film, “Alps,” on Saturday, October 7.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who is well-known for his 2009 film “Dogtooth,” “Alps” is about a group of four people; a nurse, paramedic, gymnast and her coach, who begin a strange service where they dress up as the recently deceased and are hired by their loved ones to impersonate them, as a way of helping them deal with their grief.

One in particular, the nurse, is especially dedicated to her job, perhaps happier role-playing a dead person than actually living her own life. The absurdist nature of the plot helps underline the real strangeness that can happen after a tragic loss, and is also an examination of how desperately some people will try to fit into society, desperate to find a role, no matter how bad an actor they are at it.
