CAIRO – 28 September 2017: The Egyptian director Amr Salama announced on his official Facebook page that a limited number of cinemas are screening “Sheikh Jackson.”

Salama also announced that the film will be available in all Egyptian cinemas on October 4.

“Sheikh Jackson” is a controversial movie starring Ahmed al-Fishawy, set around the death of music icon Michael Jackson. The plotline revolves around a student who loves Michael Jackson's music and imitates the pop star’s performances.

His strong relationship with Salafism reflects the contradictions in his life. Upon Jackson’s death, the student has grown older to become an Imam and subsequently goes on an inner Sufi quest to seek answers to his existential questions.

It has received its first ever premiere at the Toronto Film Festival 2017 in the Special Presentations category.

The film has also been nominated for the 90th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
