CAIRO – 25 August 2017: Egyptian filmmaker Tamer El Said's 2016 drama 'In the Last Days of the City' will be screening in Germany on September 7.
The movie is a drama about the city of Cairo itself, following its changing nature and tragic decay and blurs the line between fiction and reality. It follows Khalid Abdalla as Khalid, a filmmaker who struggles with tragedy in his life and moving on as he attempts to film a documentary about the city of Cairo in 2009, chronicling as the regime falls apart and change, whether for good or bad, becomes imminent.
Filming was finished just shortly before the 2011 revolution swept the country, turning the drama into a kind of omen of what was to come. In many ways it both a melancholy tribute to Cairo as it was and a solemn prediction of Cairo as it came to be.
