Egypt’s Ahmed Shawky, the first Arab critic to head FIPRESCI

Acclaimed Egyptian critic Ahmed Shawky was elected  as the President of the international film critics federation (FIPRESCI) for two years, to be the first Arab to fill this position.

Shawky will be the head of FIPRESCI in 2025 which will mark the centennial of FIPRESCI.

Shawky served as the Vice-Pesident of FIPRECI.

 

The acclaimed critic is the current president of the Egyptian film critics association (EFCA), and the vice president of the African film critics' federation (FAAC).

Shawky is the artistic consultant for the Malmo Arab film festival.

 

He worked as a programmer for many film festivals including Cairo, Malmo, Mumbai, among others.

 

 

He acted as a jury in various festivals such as Locarno, Shanghai, Eurasia, Transylvania, Macao, Sofia, Oran, and Taipei.

Shawky was the president of the Cannes film festival 2022 FIPRESCI Jury.
