CAIRO – 8 November 2021: The National Organization for Urban Harmony represented Egypt in the 6th Arab Urban and Architectural Heritage Observatory that was held in Tunisia and is affiliated with ALECSO.
The Arab Urban Heritage Register was discussed, as well as the Arab experiences in preserving and developing the urban and architectural heritage. Also, the Arab Observatory's work law was presented and voted on.
This came in a statement by the head of the organization, who further confirmed that buildings will be listed as per the criteria that classify the regions and Arab urban heritage sites according to certain time periods or important historical events for the Arab nation. This will allow buildings of historical and architectural value to enjoy legislative protection in the country in which they are located.
The meeting ended with numerous recommendations that would preserve the Arab urban heritage and make it a source of inspiration for the design of new cities, while preserving the human dimension.
It is noteworthy that the objective of establishing the Arab Architectural and Urban Heritage Observatory is to establish a distinguished Arab urban archive that includes buildings of distinguished urban style at the level of the Arab countries.
Additionally, it aims to preserve this diverse and huge heritage from deterioration and work to restore and develop it, according to the foundations and standards of heritage preservation, protecting it from armed conflict, natural and climatic factors, random urban activities, or the absence of a legislative article that guarantees the protection of architectural heritage.
