CAIRO – 31 March 2021: The publishing house of the American University in Cairo is holding the award ceremony for the 24thNaguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature 2021 on March 31 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
The announcement will be held in the presence of the jury and the president of the American University in Cairo. The shortlist included six novels out of 270 that were nominated for the award from all countries of the Arab world and the diaspora.
The American University in Cairo Press established the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature in 1996 and grants the award to the best contemporary novel in Arabic that has been published in the past two years. The winning novel is chosen by a jury of five judges.
The Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature, known to make a major contribution in supporting the translation of contemporary Arabic literature, consists of a cash prize of $5,000, as well as publishing and translating the winning novel to the English language in the American University’s Literature Publishing House.
