CAIRO – 25 March 2021: The American University in Cairo Press is holding the award ceremony for the 24thNaguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature 2021 in the presence of the award’s jury and AUC’s President Francis J. Ricciardone.
The celebration will be held virtually through Zoom, and will be broadcast live on the official AUC Press page on Facebook, on March 31 at 6:30 p.m.
It is worth noting that the short list of the award was announced in February; the shortlisted works were chosen from 270 nominated novels from all over the Arab world.
The American University in Cairo Press established the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature in 1996.The award is granted to the best contemporary novel in Arabic that has been published in the past 2 years. The winning novel is chosen by a jury of five judges.
The award consists of a cash sum of $5,000 and the translation and publication of the winning novel into English, in addition to distributing it around the world within the publications of the American University in Cairo Publishing House for Literature.
