EgyptAir to found airline in partnership with Ghana, implement restructuring soon

CAIRO – 22 March 2021: Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Roshdy Zakaria told press Monday on the sidelines of the Arab Aviation Summit that the company is preparing a plan with Ghana Airways to found an airline that reaches western and southern Africa starting with four aircraft.  

The airline will be based in the capital of Ghana, Accra, and 75 percent of its shares will be held by Egypt while the rest will be owned by Ghana.

Speaking of the restructuring EgyptAir is set to go through, Zakaria stated that the final format to be implemented will be EgyptAir Holding as the parent company, and five affiliates. Those are EgyptAir for Airlines, Cargo, Tourism, and Air Services; EgyptAir for Maintenance; EgyptAir for Land Services; EyptAir for Medical Services; and, the Duty Free.  

The official explained that legal and financial measures are being finalized for the execution to begin, and that current workers at EgyptAir companies will keep their job titles after the restructuring.

With regard to the safety of crew members, Zakaria stated that they will get vaccinated as doses have been secured for them from the consignments that Egypt received.

The official highlighted that the flights operated by EgyptAir at present do not surpass 50 percent of those of 2019.

On a different note, Head of the Arab Aviation Summit Adly al-Ali said that Egypt and Pakistan have been the best two countries worldwide in dealing with the aviation sector since the pandemic outbreak.
