CAIRO - 2 March 2021: Economic Development and Planning Minister Hala el Saeed has emphasized the need to depend on green economy as a top priority for Egypt to realize the 2030 Vision.

The minister’s remarks came during her participation in the 2nd edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, which kicked off on Monday under the rubric of "Shaping Africa’s New Normal: Recovering Stronger, Rebuilding Better" with the participation of African leaders, senior officials and heads of governments.

She reiterated that the State aims to enhance sustainable development and create more jobs through making reforms on fuel pricing and investments in solar energy and wind domains and carrying out projects to convert fuel-powered vehicles into natural gas-powered ones.

Saeed said the State also aims to double green economy investments to reach 30 percent in 2021/2022 and 50 percent throughout the next three years until 2024/2025, noting that the cabinet recently approved relevant environmental standards.

The minister added that Egypt has become the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to issue green bonds.

The Aswan forum, which will be held virtually till Friday, includes 15 sessions covering a wide range of themes including the following: "Terrorism in the Shadow of the Pandemic: A Pressing Need for Integrated Responses", "Advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda During the Pandemic and Beyond", and "Addressing Forced Displacement in National Planning and Peace Processes: Localizing the Paradigm Shift to Prevention in Africa."
