CAIRO – 7 June 2017: The head of the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport (GARBLT) Adel Turk requested from the Ministry of Planning to increase the budget of the Authority by LE 500 million ($27 million) in the current fiscal year 2016/2016 in order to continue its projects.

Turk stated to Egypt Today on Wednesday that the authority finished its current LE 8.5 billion budget as it delivered in the last two months due payments of LE 2.3 billion to constructions companies.

Turk said that roads have been divided into sections so as each company was responsible for construction works in one section to ensure fast execution. That made it easier for GARBLT to designate companies falling short of the deadlines, and discarding them.

Turk stressed that strategy resulted in achieving a great number of projects in unprecedented rates. As a consequence, GRBLT finished its budget before the current fiscal year ends in June 30.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a plan in 2015 to build new roads and renovate the road networks. Hundreds of projects have been executed so far.
