CAIRO – 1 September 2017: The Food Industries Holding Company’s branches will be open during Eid Al-Adha holidays to sell meat at 20-30 percent discounts, company chairman Gamal el-Sharkawy said Thursday.

The Ministry of Supply’s consumer complexes will also be open during Eid to provide basic food commodities to consumers.

Sheep meat will be sold at LE 60 ($3.37) per kilo, buffalo meat at LE 50 per kilo, and cow meat at LE 55 per kilo, he said.

Sharkawy told Egypt Today that the branches are located in the governorates of Qaliubiya, Gharbiya, Menoufeya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Dakahlia, Sharkia, Damietta, Alexandria, Marsa Matruh, Behaira, North and South Sinai, Port Said, Ismailia and Suez.

In August, Egypt’s imports of meat declined 20.3 percent to reach $113.2 million in May, compared to $142 million during the same period of the previous year, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Egypt was ranked among the five cheapest countries in regard to prices of meat, chicken and fish, according to the British publisher Caterwings’ August report.

In a list including 52 countries, Egypt ranked number 48, followed by Brazil, India, Malaysia and Ukraine.
