Egypt has merged its Ministry of Planning and Economic Development with the Ministry of International Cooperation. This is the third time these functions have been combined, with the aim of creating a more integrated and efficient government structure.

The newly formed ministry will be led by Rania Al-Mashat, who has served in the cabinet since 2018.  Al-Mashat brings over 20 years of experience in international development, finance, and sustainable development to the role.

The merger streamlines government operations by bringing together entities responsible for:
  • Drafting long-term economic development plans.
  • Setting national development goals.
  • Attracting international investment and partnerships.
This consolidation is expected to yield several benefits:
  • Improved Coordination: By working under one roof, planning and international cooperation efforts can be better coordinated. This could lead to a more efficient allocation of resources and faster implementation of development projects.
  • Targeted Investment: The new ministry can prioritize attracting foreign investment that aligns with Egypt's development plans. This could lead to more targeted investments that create jobs and drive economic growth.
  • Simplified Business Environment: Foreign investors may find it easier to navigate the investment process with a single point of contact for both investment opportunities and development plans.
This merger reflects the Egyptian government's commitment to streamlining bureaucracy and achieving its economic development goals.
