Libyan 5+5 Military Committee urges international community to back mercenaries' deportation

CAIRO – 17 March 2021: In the final statement it released Tuesday amid the conclusion of the third round of talks, the Libyan 5+5 Military Committee demanded states that were part of Berlin Conference in January 2020, and the UN Security Council to play a role in the deportation of mercenaries from Libya.

 

The committee also discussed exchanging detainees, and supporting the work of international observers. I finally thanked Prime Minister Abdulhamid Al Dabaibah for visiting the committee's headquarters in Sirte wishing the new Presidential Council and interim Government of National Unity (GNU).

 

The committee consists of five military commanders from each of the Libyan National Army (LNA) controlling eastern and central Libya, and the militias controlling western Libya.

 

On March 16, power was handed over from the former presidential council to the new one, and from the 2014 Government of National Accord (GNA) to the GNU, which is supposed to pave the way for holding elections on December 24.

 

On March 15, the GNU members and prime minister took the oath of office before the Tobruk-based House of Representatives.

 

The new Chair of the Presidential Council is Mohamed Menfi, and the other two members are Mossa Al-Koni, and Abdullah Al-Lafi. Dabiba-Menfi list received the necessary votes in the ballot held by the UN-fostered Libyan National Dialogue Forum on February 6.
