CAIRO – 3 July 2017: The Minister for Communication and Information Technology Yasser Al-Qadi has denied on Sunday any rise of prepaid cell phone credit card prices, affirming that the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) or any other company have not made any decision to raise tariffs.

“The prices of prepaid cell phone cards and internet access services are the same as six months ago and other than that is just rumors,” said the minister.

Individual traders are responsible for setting cell phone credit card prices and there has not been any increase of their official tariffs, according to the minister in a telephone interview with the Kol Youm news program broadcast on ON E channel.

The discussion on mobile phone tariffs comes as Parliament ruled on Thursday to increase the price of gasoline as part of Egypt’s economic reform program approved by the International Monetary Fund to address the country’s budget deficit.
